Install Kadence Theme

There are 4 steps to install your new theme from Studio Mommy.

TROUBLESHOOT – if you have any trouble while following the tutorials please see the troubleshoot section at the bottom of this page. If that does not help please contact me. Thanks.

Important – Before You Begin

* If you have the plugin called “Classic Editor” installed, you need to uninstall this plugin to make the theme work. The Kadence themes will not work with the Classic Editor plugin. Click on “Plugins” in your WordPress dashboard to see if you have this plugin.

* It’s always a good idea to do all the updates that are on your WordPress dashboard before you install a new theme. Studio Mommy’s themes are created using the newest version of WordPress and plugins. If you are using an older version then you may run into issues.

* If you have an existing site – please be sure to have a backup of your site before installing a new theme. If you are not sure how to create a backup… contact your hosting company for help.

Step 1 – Install Kadence Theme

  1. Click on “Appearance” then “Add New”.
  2. In the search box, type in Kadence.
  1. Click “Install”. You do not have to Activate it but if you do… that’s okay.

Step 2 – Install Starter Template Plugin

  1. Click on “Plugins” then “Add New”.
  2. In the search box, type in Kadence Starter Templates
  1. Click “Install” then “Activate”.

Step 3 – Install Studio Mommy’s Theme

  1. Click on “Appearance” then “Add New”
  2. Click on “Upload Theme”.
  3. Choose the theme (zip file) that you purchased from Studio Mommy.
  1. Click “Install Now” then “Activate”.

Step 4 – Install Demo Content

This step will install all the demo blog posts, pages, images and more to your site.

Important – Before You Begin

Please be sure to pause any RSS-to-email feeds if you have this BEFORE installing the demo content. After the demo content is installed, you can delete the demo posts and restart your RSS feed. again.

  1. At the top of the site… Click on “Site Assist” then “Starter Templates”.
  2. Click on the Studio Mommy Theme you purchased. If you do not see the Studio Mommy theme… see the second image below.

If you did not see the theme image above, try this instead.
At the top right corner… you will either see Kadence AI or Block Editor. Click on that then choose Studio Mommy from the drop-down list. You should now see the Theme image as shown above. Next, click on that theme image.

  1. Last Step – Click “Finish and Launch”. This may take 5-8 minutes depending on how fast your connection is.

Troubleshoot

If the demo content doesn’t upload and you receive an error message… this is usually due to a conflict with a plugin or a previous theme. Here is what I recommend:

1. If there are any updates that need to be done on your site… please be sure to do them first. You can find the updates by visiting your WordPress dashboard then click on Dashboard >> Updates.

2. Click on “Appearance”. Delete all the themes that you have installed on your site except for the Studio Mommy theme (that you purchased), the Kadence Theme, and a basic WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-Three). You should have a total of 3 themes now. You may want to have a backup of the other themes saved to your computer before you delete them in case you want to use them again in the future.

3. Next, click on “Plugins”. Deactivate all of the plugins on your site except for the Kadence plugins and the required plugins for your Studio Mommy theme. You can view the bottom of your theme’s tutorial page to see the required plugins.

4. After following the steps above… try to install the demo content again. If you still continue to receive the error message please send me a support ticket.

If you see this error message then the theme file you have uploaded is not zipped. The file needs to be zipped in order to upload it to your site.

Do you have a Mac computer? These computers have a setting that will automatically unzip files when you download them. To turn this off please click on “Safari” then “Settings”. Under the “General” tab please uncheck the box that says “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading”. You can now re-download the theme files and they should stay zipped.

This is totally okay. This plugin is only used for the demo site. You do not need this plugin. The custom font will be installed on your site when you install the demo content in step 4 above.
