How to Install an Updated Theme

Updated Theme – WordPress will not allow you to have 2 of the same themes on your site (even if it’s an updated one). You will first need to delete the theme that’s on your site before you can install the updated one. This is how:

IMPORTANT – also before we get started… please do all updates that your site is saying it needs. This is especially important if you have updates for Genesis or WordPress. Updated themes are using the newest WordPress and Genesis. If you are using an outdated one then this may cause some problems when you install the new one.

Please Note: if you made any changes in the CSS code (or PHP) of the design then these changes will be removed when installing the new update.

STEP 1 – ACTIVATE THE GENESIS FRAMEWORK FIRST

The first thing you will need to do is Activate the Genesis Framework. // Go to your WordPress site then click on “Appearance”. Hover your mouse over “Genesis” then click on “Activate”. See the image below for an example of where to find “Activate”.

STEP 2 – DELETE YOUR CURRENT WORDPRESS THEME

The next step is to delete the theme you would like to update. // Hover your mouse over the theme then click on “Theme Details”. When the theme detail box appears then click on “Delete”. See image below to find the red “Delete” button.

STEP 3 – INSTALL THE UPDATED THEME

Now you can install the updated theme. // Click on “Add New” at the top of your page then click on “Upload Theme”. Click on “browse”, find/choose the new updated theme zip file you saved to your computer, then click on “open”. Click on “Install Now” then click on “Activate”.

STEP 4 – FOLLOW THE THEMES TUTORIALS

To make your site/blog look like the demo please follow the themes tutorials. You will find a link to your themes tutorials in the PDF Setup Guide that you received when you downloaded and saved the files to your computer.
